We aim to run three contests (plus other events) per year. Entries are welcome from bands from outside of the Association; further details are available from the Contest Secretary. We endeavour at all times to appoint experienced, well-known and highly respected adjudicators at our contests.

Test Piece Workshop
This event is aimed to give 3rd and 4th section bands an insight into the Area Test Pieces. Led by an experienced conductor, adjudicator or composer of the work, the workshop has a band made up of players who will actually be playing the test piece in the contest. Although this is aimed primarily at players and conductors involved in the area contest, it is open to everybody as it is a great learning experience in general. This will next be held on Sunday, 4th February 2018
This was formerly an own-choice March and own-choice Test Piece competition, but the March contest has now been abolished for the foreseeable future. It usually takes place early in the year – usually late February or early March. This is particularly suitable for bands wishing to “run out” the test piece set for the Area Qualifier contests later in the month. The contest will next be held on Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th February 2018 at Marlborough School, Woodstock.
This is our popular Solos, Duets and Quartet contest. There are approximately 20 sections, even including a section for percussionists and for adult learners, in addition to all of those sections aimed at more experienced adults and junior players. This contest takes place in Spring each year, and will next be held on Sunday 29th April 2018 at Marlborough School, Woodstock.
This is a contest where bands are invited to enter a concert programme of around 20 minutes in length. Bands are marked on entertainment value and presentation skills, as well as musical ability. This contest usually takes place in the Autumn, and will next be held on Sunday October 14th, 2018.
